A local newspaper has identified a very common problem, and is suggesting that the public should follow up and check the accuracy of their closing. It then explains how the Public can do that online. Read the story here.
It is a sad commentary on the title industry and on lenders who are so busy raking in money and trying to bring in new business, that they neglect fundamental day-to-day workings of our industries. We identify mortgages, close loans to pay them off, and then don’t follow up on the paper work to release them.
Interesting that the newspaper should run a “do-it-yourself” title search article because lenders and title companies are so poor at housekeeping. How can an industry known for its detail and care, be so sloppy that the consumer believes s/he has to go to the Courthouse to check up on their Title Company and their lender. Shame on us. We should be better than that.
