Use of Geo-codes for Parcel ID (tax no.)
Hello Jeanne!
I seem to recall that you had a projection using quarter quarter numbers as a geo-code to identify where tax parcels are located, but I cannot find it in my materials. Do you recall seeing or having such an animal? Would you please share? I have an Anoka County property with PID of 11-32-22-21-0006. I could have sworn this was NW ¼ of NE ¼, but is it actually NE ¼ of NW ¼?

Hi Jay – Great Question!
Parcel ID Nos. in many counties are “smart nos.” in that they represent:
Section – Twp-Range- 1/4 1/4 – and a specific ID given by the County to identify the given parcel with the 40 acre 1/4 1/4.
The 2 digit Quarter Quarter no. is an identifier. Everything in the NE 1/4 starts with a 1; everthing in the NW 1/4 with a 2; the SW 1/4 with a 3; and the SE1/4 with a 4. The process repeats within the 1/4 1/4, So the NE of NE would be identified as 11, the SW of NE as 13, etc.
Your number, therefore is a parcel in Sec 11. Twp 32, Rge 22,in the NE 1/4 of NW 1/4. Hope this helps. Best,
